Session Location:
We have a few different locations we use from which we will decide depending on the time and date the session is scheduled. Please note that some locations have closing times and closed on certain days of the week. In case you have a certain location in mind besides what we offer, there is a travel fee depending on how far the location.
Before the Session:
Wardrobe is key in creating these lasting memories, but make sure and follow your own style, you are going to want to print and hang these photos in your home and you want them to fit you and your personality!
Professional Hair and make-up are suggested.
The arrival of your new Baby is such a special time for you and your family. The addition of a new, sweet baby that changes life completely! I want to help you savor those memories of your sweet, little one and create images of this special moment in your life to cherish forever.
When to Schedule your Newborn Session:
Newborn Photos are best when taken in the first two weeks after your baby’s birth. During this time, your baby has a deeper sleep and is very flexible for all those cute poses and his or her complexion is clear. You should call during your second or third trimester of pregnancy to reserve your your session. When you call to schedule your appointment, your due date will be added to my calendar and a date reserved for a time within those two weeks of your baby's life. Notify me as soon as possible when your baby is born to set a firm date. In some cases, sessions can be completed at more days old, but these just depend on the baby and how they react to the session. This is why to ensure we get those newborn shots, that you schedule as soon as possible.
Preparing for Session:
• Try to feed baby 20-30 before arrival (either to the studio or my arrival to your home). Babies with full tummies are happier and sleepy, which will help make your shoot go
smoothly.
• Don’t be worried if baby is fussing, we will take time to relax and settle baby if needed.
• Keep baby awake by interacting with him/her for 1-2 hours before we are scheduled to start. Undressing baby or taking a long bath can help baby stay alert and awake.
• Dress baby in loose fitting comfy clothes that opens down the front. No socks, headbands, or hats, please.
• Bring a pacifier for soothing and transitioning from pose to pose.
Bottle-feeding
Bring extra bottles, formula, etc. Babies often eat more during and after their session.
Breast-feeding
Stick to a bland diet for 24–48 hours prior to your session. Avoid spicy, highly seasoned, heavy dairy. Tiny, new tummies are sensitive, and a bland diet will help baby stay calm, and reduce gas.
What to wear
Wear solid, neutral-colored clothing. We recommend the following colors—light blue, gray, white, cream, khaki, and blush. You don’t’ have to wear these colors, but they are the most flattering, and won’t create a color cast on baby. Suggestions for: Mom—a top in a light, solid color, or light print. Dad—a nice t-shirt or button up in a light, solid color, or very small print. Bring a change in case accidents happen.
Lifestyle shoots (if you choose at your home)
If you have a lifestyle shoot, we will shoot in the rooms that have the most light. However we like to shoot in the nursery and parent’s bedroom. Before arrival, de-clutter and hide baby monitors, diaper pails, etc. A clean room will allow focus to be on the family, and not on the décor.
Arrival
I will take a few moments to get to know you, baby, and any children. We will discuss the main goal of your session, and any props or keepsakes you want included.
Siblings
I love to include siblings in photographs! I recommend that you bring little ones at the beginning, and we will do siblings and family first. After, I ask that someone (spouse, grandparent) take big brothers/sisters home. Newborn sessions are long and most successful when it’s nice and quiet. It’s hard for little siblings to sit still for that long, and makes your experience more stressful. Siblings should wear simple neutral clothing to keep the focus on the little ones, and not on their clothes.
Reminder to bring with you
Extra diapers and wipes
Pacifier
Extra milk and bottles for formula
Change of clothes for mom and dad
Props/keepsakes
